Alaska Wedding #1 - Northern Lights (Blue) Wedding

The northern lights, also known as aurora borealis, occur about 60 or 70 miles above the earth’s surface —about 10 times higher than a jet aircraft flies — and can extend hundreds of miles into space. The most common color displayed is a brilliant yellow-green, but the aurora borealis can also produce red, blue and purple patterns.
While the northern lights occur year-round, summer’s near-constant daylight makes seeing them next to impossible. In winter, however, clear, dark nights lend themselves to stunning displays. Sightings are also possible during the “shoulder seasons” of early spring and into the fall, when less daylight leads to darker night skies. Many Alaska hotels even offer a northern lights wake-up call (upon request, of course) to wake visitors when the lights are out.
Towns and cities produce ambient light that interferes with aurora viewing, and while auroras are still visible from cities, it is best to view from the outskirts of town, or in an area known for clear, dark skies. The Interior (especially Fairbanks) and Far North regions are considered the best in Alaska for northern lights viewing, although the aurora can be spotted anywhere in Alaska (Northern Lights Viewing).
With the best time to see the Aurora being at night the best time for this wedding would be at night/after sundown. The perfect theme for this wedding is Nighttime and Light, a beautiful blue would work great as the colour scheme.

The Flowers:
The thing to keep in mind when getting flowers is that not every flower comes in every colour. Some flowers come in a variety of colours some don't and some can be dyed to match a specific colour. Blue is not a common colour for flowers but not impossible to find or make.

The Dress:
A nice dress choice for a night wedding is something with beading or diamonds. Anything sparkly would be a great option because when it catches the moonlight it will twinkle. Of course the perfect dress can't be chosen from a magazine or online pictures but a great choice is Enchanting Fit-and-Flared Sweetheart Court Train Taffeta Wedding Dress with Beading.

The Shoes:
With a long dress, shoes are very important. Long dresses usually mean that the shoes won't really be seen. But with high enough heels the shoes could lift the dress up enough that the shoes get noticed. In any case, a nice pair that will glitter would be the Ellie Shoes Women's 415 - Flamingo Pumps.

Hair, Make up, Nail, Accessories:
With a strapless dress having the hair down is a great option, it hide some of the skin being shown. Another option is to have an up-do that lets the hair cascade down in front to hide the shoulders. For make up, natural is always best, or what the bride normally does, but nice blue eyes would be a perfect accent to this wedding. Like shown below, a little blue to highlight the eyes. A great option for a necklace would be the Alaska State Pendant.

The Groom:
The groom is not hard to shop for, the main decisions to be made is white or black suit? In this case a Men's White Modern Dress Suit would be nice because of how dark it would be when the couple gets married. (Assuming the couple gets married outside, if its not too cold, or with the night sky as a backdrop). Add a Palermo Royal Blue Vest and a Navy Blue Microfiber Midnight Navy Textured Long Tie with Men's Stacy Adams Madison White Shoes and the groom and his men are all set.

The Bride's Maids:
Whether the bride chooses to have just a maid of honor of a ton of bride's maids a beautiful dress would be a One Shoulder Chiffon Blue Dress. It is a beautiful dress that won't out shine the bride but will make the bride's maids happy too.

The Invitations:
The invitations don't always have to match the colour scheme of the wedding but they should match the theme. In this case with the theme being night and lights a great option for invitations would be "The Hilary" Modern String of Party Lights.

The Ceremony:
If the weather cooperates a beautiful ceremony outside would be amazing for this wedding. Not only could the couple get married under the Northern Lights themselves but the night sky makes a beautiful backdrop for any ceremony. Beautiful Personalized Lanterns can line the isle as the bride walks down and it would make the perfect touch to a beautiful setting.

The Rings:
Wedding rings never usually match the theme or colour scheme of the wedding, usually they are gold, white gold, or silver rings with a diamond or two. But, if the couple wants to be unique and go with unique rings a nice choice would be the Black Opal inlay Titanium Ring. (It is unisex and comes in sizes 3.25-16).

The Reception:
Again if the weather is warm enough the best place to have a reception is outside. Having a nice tent set up outside for guests would be perfect. The dance floor, DJ and tables can be set up under the tent and if guests choose to they can go walking around and still see the lights in the sky. Tents are awesome because they need little to no decoration at all. For this wedding, just some strings of lights around the tent would be fine. Nice options would be these 20 Flower Handmade in White Color String, and/or 20 Shaded Blue Cotton Ball Lanterns. Another great option is larger hanging lanterns if the couple can find them. Also lanterns to line a pathway out of the tent would be nice so guests don't have to worry about walking in the dark if they choose to wonder out and see the Aurora.

Depending on the number of guest a nice signing book would be an Alaska Map Print Piece of Art. The guests can sign around the outline of Alaska and it's something the couple can hang and display in their home to remember their special day. With a wedding like this because it is so late, a supper may not be something the couple wants to do (depending on how late in the evening it is). If they choose just to have a late lunch, there is no need for table numbers, or place cards or a setting arrangement even. However a nice centerpiece and handy if the couple wants table numbers would be Luminarian Autumn Tree Lanterns.

The Food:
For late night lunches traditional options are salads (like Everything but the Kitchen Sink Macaroni Salad, Roasted New Potato Salad, and a Broccoli and Bacon Salad) finger foods are also a great choice (like Cocktail Meatballs, vegetables and Dill Dip, cheese, pickles, cold sandwiches and Deviled Eggs). For dessert a nice variety like the lunch buffet is a good choice. Usually for a wedding, cakes or cupcakes wouldn't be part of the dessert choices because there is cake coming. Good choices would be White Chocolate Lemon Truffles, Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts, and Snickerdoodle Bars.

The Cake:
Cakes always depend on the couples preference. Most couples choose a white cake with decorations on it that match their colours. But that doesn't always have to be. A nice option for a wedding cake would be a blue wedding cake that matches the dark sky. Or a half blue and half white cake that gives the couple the best of both worlds. Any cake would be beautiful. A small couple on top of the cake is tradition but a nice glass topper would be a nice touch to this wedding cake because of how the lights would reflect in it.

Royal Blue Wedding Cake
Thank You Cards:
Thank you cards don't always have to match, some couples choose to send photos of their wedding with a thank you note on the back or just a plain simple card. Anything is fine really, it's the gesture that counts.

Shooting Stars

Things to See:
There are so many great things to see and do in Alaska, like seeing Juneau's Icefields, riding the Mount Roberts Tramway, seeing the Botanical Gardens, and the many museums in Alaska. Other great places to see would be Kincaid Park, Chilkoot Pass, Flattop Mountain, Alaska State Capitol, Portage Glacier, Alaska Zoo and Alaska Sealife Center. There are so many great things to do also like dog sledging, seeing the Aurora, and many other activities in the snow.

Alaska

"Alaska is a U.S State situated in the northwest extremity of the North American continent. Bordering the state to the east is the Canadian Yukon Territory and the province of British Columbia, the Arctic Ocean to the north, and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, with Russia (specifically, Siberia) further west across the Bering Strait. Alaska is the largest state in the United States by area, the 4th least populous and the least densely populated of the 50 United States" (Alaska).

The name Alaska had been introduced in the Russian colonial period, when it was used to refer to the peninsula. Alaska is known as The Last Frontier because it has large areas that have yet to be explore, it is also part of a small group of countries lucky enough to be part of the natural phenomenon known as The Midnight Sun Phenomenon, and Alaska is one of the best places to see the Aurora Borealis (The Northern Lights). For this State, I will plan one weddings revolving around the state itself and the Northern Lights.

Alabama Wedding #2 - Cotton (2nd Anniversary) Wedding

In North America the 2nd Anniversary gift is Cotton, a great place to renew wedding vows or get married with a Cotton theme is Alabama, the Cotton State. "Alabama was one of many cotton-producing states in the US in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It was nicknamed ''the cotton state'' because of its central location in the Cotton Belt of the Dixie South. Cotton dominated Alabama's economy and drove its history and the structure of society (Why Was Alabama Called the Cotton State).

The Flowers:
The obvious choice for the flowers is  raw cotton. It makes for beautiful arrangements and obvious is the best option for a wedding bouquet. It even makes beautiful boutonnieres for the groom and his groomsmen.

The Dress:
Most wedding dresses are made of satin but there are some wedding dresses that are made of cotton. To buy a cotton dress simply because the theme is cotton is a little much but if the bride finds a dress she likes and it happens to be available in cotton that would be a nice touch. For a Cotton Wedding, no matter what material the dress is, a white dress would be best.

Chic Draped A-line Scallop Hi-Low Designed Satin Informal Wedding Dress

The Shoes:
With a short dress, the shoes are going to be noticeable so a nice high heel that highlights the legs would be a great choice. For a longer dress the shoes won't be on display so anything that makes the bride comfortable would be just fine.

Lucy
Hair, Make up, Nail, Accessories:
A dress that is strapless leaves the chest and shoulders exposed, a creative way to cover up some of the exposed area is with a necklace or by having a down hairstyle, especially with long hair. Having the hair come down the shoulders makes like look like straps to the dress. A nice necklace for this wedding since it is representing the state would be the Alabama State Pendant from Personalized-Jewelry.com.

The Invitations:
A nice set of invitations for this wedding would be the Enchanting Set. It includes the invitations, RSVP Cards, Reception Cards and even Save the Date Cards. Any style invitation can be brought to a printers and they should be able to print whatever the couple wants. So even if the couple can't find these invitations online there is still a possibility that someone can make prints just like them.

The Ceremony:
A couple can't determine the weather so it is always good to have a backup plan when planning and outdoor wedding, but for a Cotton Wedding it is a nice idea. A wonderful place for both the ceremony and reception would be Southern House and Gardens  They have ten different packages to choose from and they cater on site. They have beautiful grounds and specialize in weddings. That means that they personally can help any couple plan their wedding and they have a lot of experience.

Some couples like to have programs for their ceremony. This would include any readings, who the wedding party is, sometimes who the parents of the bride and groom are, and any other little information. They are never more than two pages but the bride and groom can choose to add whatever they want to theme.

The Rings:
With the cotton being so white and pure a great option for wedding rings would be a Platinum Diamond Wedding Band by Cartier. All Cartier rings are unisexed rings so it would be perfect for both the bride and groom.

The Reception:
The Southern House and Gardens grounds are a perfect place to have a reception. They have a beautiful barn that can be used for the meal and for the whole reception. The grounds are absolutely amazing and a great place to take pictures also.

The Food:
Classic dishes for Alabama is seafood, soul food, and barbecue. A nice soup to start with would be Chicken and Dumpling Soup. A nice meal would surf and turf with Cheesy Broccoli Patties on the side. And the perfect dessert to finish off this meal would be a Southern Praline Pecan Cake with Whip Cream on the side.

Southern Praline Pecan Cake

For the cake:
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed

4 large eggs

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For praline icing:

3/4 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
4 large eggs yolks
1 large can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups chopped pecans

1. Grease and flour three nine-inch round cake pans and preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Cream the butter with both granulated sugar and light brown sugar until very light and fluffy, then add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

3. Sift the flour with the baking powder, baking soda and salt and add to the batter alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry mixture. Stir in the vanilla extract.

4. Divide batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake in the center of the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center of the layers comes out clean. Cool layers in their pans over a rack for ten minutes, then loosen and turn out layers directly onto racks for cooling. Cool layers thoroughly before icing.

5. For the icing, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat, then stir in granulated sugar and light brown sugar. (Sugars will not dissolve).

6. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the evaporated milk until smooth, then whisk this mixture into the saucepan with the sugar mixture. Return saucepan to a medium heat setting and cook, whisking constantly, until mixture is thick, shiny and caramel-like, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and pecans.

7. Cool icing to a good spreading consistency (about 30 minutes), then spread evenly between cooled cake layers and over the top and sides of the cake.

The Cake:
With cotton being so pure, a nice cake for this wedding would be a simple White Cake with a nice Cream Cheese Icing. A nice topping, would be a Personalized Acrylic Circle Cake Topper. It isn't traditional but it is beautiful and clear almost like glass.

White Wedding Cake
The Centerpieces:
The perfect centerpiece for this wedding has to be a cotton bouquet in a vase. Not many people have seen cotton in its natural state and it would be a nice experience for the guests and it would match the theme. Cotton can be a beautiful centerpiece if laid out right and with the right accents.

The Guest Favours:
Cotton isn't the easiest theme to find when it comes to guest favours. Guest favours don't always have to match the theme sometimes they are just general gifts, like candies, or flower seeds. In this case because Alabama is know for its soul food and comfort food a nice idea for a guest favour would be bags of cookies. Pecan Coconut Praline Cookies scream southern comfort and are a great option to give as gifts because they are easy to make. Put them in a Personalized Bridal Pattern Goodie Bag and they make the perfect guest favours.

Thank You Cards:
Sometimes invitation sets don't come with Thank You Cards that match. Sometimes the bride and groom don't want to simply send a thank you card. A great option for thank you cards is a picture from the wedding, or the honeymoon with a little note on the back. Magnetstreet.com has a Thank You Card that the couple can upload their photo to and it will create a card out of it.

Places to See:
Alabama isn't really famous for any particular landmarks, but there are a lot of beautiful things to see and a lot of wonderful places to tour. The Brimingham Zoo welcomed a new Giraffe to their family in January of 2014 and they have many beautiful animals to see and learn about. Brimingham also has a Civil Rights Institute, a Botanical Garden, and a Museum of Art. The Alabama State Capitol is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the First Confederate Capitol. The capitol of Alabama is Montgomery and it has a beautiful State Capitol Building ontop of Capitol Hill. Alabama has a lot of historic places and great American places to see like the U.S Space and Rocket CenterFort MorganThe United States Space Camp, and Battleship Memorial Park where the USS Alabama can be seen. Other interesting things to visit would be the Alabama Theater, Cheaha Mountain, and the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Alabama Wedding #1 - Yellowhammer Bird (Yellow) Wedding

"The Yellowhammer (Emberiza Citrinella) is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae. It is common in all sorts of open areas with some scrub or trees and form small flocks in winter" (Yellowhammer).
The yellowhammer bird is the official bird of Alabama and is a beautiful bird. A great theme and colour scheme to work with.

Yellowhammer
The Flowers:
Nice flowers are calla lilies and orchids. They come in a verity of colours and are beautiful in yellow. White and black go well with yellow but for a wedding theme that is solely yellow black would overwhelm the yellow.

Orchids and Calla Lilies
The Dress:
For this wedding a nice plan and simple dress would be a great option. The Yellowhammer bird is nothing special but is beautiful by nature, a great way to highlight the bride's nature beauty would be to do the same with the wedding dress. Something simple doesn't mean dull, a beautiful dress doesn't need sparkles or embroidery or colour even.

Off-the-Shoulder Chapel Train Organza Wedding Dress
The Shoes:
The dress above is not quite floor length so a nice shoe is needed. Something that would catch the eye of guests and something that is comfortable for the bride also. A nice pair of shoes are the Touch Up Jodi (454) Shoes. They are plan sandals but they have a beautiful accent in the middle that sparkles and makes them so unique.

Hair, Make Up, Accessories:
With a dress that has straps, or that is off the shoulder a nice choice for hair styles is an up-do. Matched with something simple in the hair, or a veil, a nice simple up-do would be perfect. A nice necklace for this wedding since it is representing the state would be the Alabama State Pendant from Personalized-Jewelry.com.

Invitations:
Naturally the colour scheme for this wedding is yellow, but there has also been a simplicity theme in the wedding. So for the invitation sticking with yellow and simple would be a nice way to go. The Vine Wedding Set in Yellow is a perfect options, it has the invitations, the Enclosed Card, and the RSVP Card.

Ceremony:
A wonderful place for both the ceremony and reception would be Southern House and Gardens  They have ten different packages to choose from and they cater on site. They have beautiful grounds and specialize in weddings. That means that they personally can help any couple plan their wedding and they have a lot of experience.

Some couples like to have programs for their ceremony. This would include any readings, who the wedding party is, sometimes who the parents of the bride and groom are, and any other little information. They are never more than two pages but the bride and groom can choose to add whatever they want to theme.

The Rings:
Beautiful options for the rings are yellow diamonds. The most famous yellow diamond would be the Tiffany Yellow Diamond, it is simply stunning. For wedding rings it is a beautiful choice and it stands out as an unusual gem.

The Reception:
The Southern House and Gardens grounds are a perfect place to have a reception. They have a beautiful barn that can be the backdrop for any dinner reception or the barn can be used for the whole reception. The grounds are absolutely amazing and a great place to take pictures also.

The perfect guest book for this reception would be the Alabama art print it is the shape of the state in white on a beautiful background. The guests can sign all around the state and even in the state if the extra room is needed.

The Food:
If the couple chooses to go with any place catered, they will have a menu to choose from. If they don't or the couple has to give ideas on what food they would like to have at their wedding, a nice buffet style meal would be a good option. Most weddings have a meal served around 11 pm or midnight so having a big heavy meal isn't always needed and can get costly. A buffet style meal also saves on place cards and a seating arrangement because it won't matter who is sitting where. The couple can choose to put Menus on each table or just place them on the serving table so the guests know what their options are, but it isn't really needed. Great options for a buffet would be a nice Grilled Potato Salad, a Three Bean Salad, and maybe some kind of Macaroni Salad, some Coleslaw, and a few different types of hot and cold Sandwiches. Sandwiches likes a Reuben Sandwich, Easy BBQ Chicken Sandwich, and Mini Man Burgers (Sliders), other great options are cold sandwiches too like Egg Salad Sandwiches and/or a Chicken Salad Sandwich (#45). A nice assortment of desserts for this wedding would be Lemon White Chocolate Bars, Lemon Butter Cookies, White Chocolate Macadamia Bars, and Glazed Doughnut Muffins.

The Cake:
For the cake for this wedding a nice option would be a Butter Cake. The cake is neutral so the filling and fondant give it the flavour. The bride and groom can choose whatever flavour they want for the filling without changing the colour of the cake. A great serving set that is not very traditional would be this Beaded Wedding Cake Serving Set.

My Main Squeeze
The Centerpieces:
Fruits are always a great way to add colour to any wedding centerpiece. A vase with yellow lemons in it would be perfect for this wedding. Adding flowers also would make it that much more special and beautiful, however it would also drive up the cost. Either way, with or without the flowers it is a beautiful choice for a yellow centerpiece.

Lemon Centerpiece
Thank You Cards:
Thank You Cards don't always have to match the invitations, sometimes the invitations don't come with matching Thank You cards, and sometimes the bride and groom decide to send pictures from their wedding or honeymoon as a thank you instead. The picture thank you cards are always a nice personal touch but sometimes the bride and groom like to write a little message in their card and choose to send both.
